Cava Resturant - Rockville

Location: 9713 Traville Gateway Drive, Rockville, MD 20850

DISAPPOINTING. I have been here a couple of time for lunch, but never for dinner until last night. I walked away extremely upset and disgusted. They do not take reservations on Saturday nights. I went in and put my name down. They ran out of buzzers we had to check in 20 minutes to get a buzzer. After checking in, we got a buzzer and waited 40 more minutes till it went off. We went to the hostess and she was going to seat us outside. Problem is...when I put my name down, I specifically said we wanted to sit inside. I told the hostess this and she asked for my name again, and immediately she look worried. She looked at the paper with the list of people waiting to be seated, then said, "Sorry I buzzed another couple at the same time, I will seat you IMMEDIATELY." As she said that, the other couple that was buzzed "at the same time" came up from the bar. Problem is, from the looks of her face, she had already crossed our names off the list. From what I remember, the couple that came up from the bar arrived no more than 15 minutes ago from being called. We were supposed to be seated a LONG TIME AGO. Thank you. Waiter was nice and had a happy attitude. We ordered oyster skordalia, saganaki, seared sushi grade yellowtail, scallop mushroom risotto and lamb chops (served in that order). We were given pita and three different sauces to dip it in: olive oil with a zesty flavor, olive oli with olives and a spicy tomato dip. It was decently good. Oyster skordalia was delicious and flavorful.  Saganaki was the "flaming" cheese. It was comparable to eating a block of salt. After the BLOCK OF SALT, everything for me was downhill. Everything else I ate tasted like salt, salt and salt. Halfway through, my stomach felt uneasy. Recommendation, DO NOT GET THE SAGANAKI. Apart from not being able to taste anything, risotto could have been softer. I cannot tell you about the other dishes we had, taste-wise, because everything tasted like SALT. I drank 2 cups of water to try to rid the salt-taste too. (Note: It takes alot for me to HATE something that I ate. This was one of the worst).

In short, (1) wait in front of the hostess. (2) DO NOT get the saganaki . Ratings: 2/5. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. Also, went home thirsty as shit. too much MSG.  Cava. You are NOT GOOD for DINNER, but I may come back for lunch some other day.

Urban Burger Company

Location: 5566 Norbeck Rd. Rockville, MD 20853

If your craving for a good burger. I definitely recommend this place. How it works, you first pick a type of burger, then add a style (+$1), and any additional toppings (+.50). I ordered a black Angus burger (medium rare) with the Blazin Saddle style. According to the menu, the Blazin Saddle style was spicy two-alarm chili, cheddar-jack cheese, and green onions. There is an additional condiments section with tomato, pickles, onions, lettuce..etc. It was a mess to eat, but so worth that mess. They provide wet naps along with the condiments, get alot! I mean ALOT! I also had fries, they were so-so, my order had many short fries..it seems like I got the end of the fries...but, this place is great. I would go back anytime! (: They make a GREAT burger. 5/5! YUM!

Karma Resturant

Location: 9811 Washingtonian Blvd,, Gaithersburg, MD 20878

This is a Indian-Malaysian restaurant located along the boardwalk in Washingtonian Rio. The Roti Canai is good. I would definelty recommend it as an appetizer! I also tried the Roti Telur. I proably wouldnt get it again, it was basically the roti canai with eggs and onion. It was decent, but I would have rather ordered an extra roti canai. For the main course, I decided on the Masak Nenas. This was bascially chicken with pineapple chunks, lemon grass, mint, and red onion in a spicy curry sauce. The curry sauce was not quite spicy as the menu stated. The entree was served in half of a pineapple. Overall, it was decent. Not great. Not horrible. Good. I probably  wouldn't return if I was in the area...I would probably only go back for the roti canai...3/5.

Mrs K's Toll House

Location: 9201 Colesville Rd. Silver Spring, MD 20910

With my boyfriend (of course), I went to Mrs. K's Toll House Restaurant for Sunday Brunch. There was a small wait, but we were sitting fairly quickly. I think my boyfriend had made reservations though! There is a wine cellar seating in the basement..at first we were to be sat there, but my boyfriend politely asked to be seated upstairs. The wine cellar reminds me of  a dungeon...we were seated next to a window! YAY! The place is packed with people, well not packed...but filled. That's one way you can tell that this is a good place to eat at. The buffet contains foods like: mini waffles, eggs Benedict, bacon strips, home fries, oysters on the half shell, smoked salmon, snow crab legs...etc. I also ordered a custom omelet (spinach and REAL crab meat) and got meats from the hand-carving station as well. They didn't cheap me out on the crab meat either...I was given a generous lump of crab meat! The overall bunch was great. It was well worth the money ($29.99 a person). I have a major sweet tooth and one the things that I had for dessert was marshmallows from the gleaming  chocolate fountain and fresh cut fruits! There was a selection of mini cakes and cheesecakes as well. Of course, I had to have some of everything. I would definitely come back. This place is good for celebrating a special occasion. The only negatives about this place is: you need reservations, there is a wait in the buffet line. The only thing I wished was a for a larger selection of desserts. On a side note, the restaurant looks like a cottage home, bringing a really cozy and all-American home feeling. All and all, this was great! 4 out of 5 stars...

BlackSalt Fish Market & Restaurant

Location: 4883 MacArthur Blvd., Washington, DC

With my boyfriend for dinner,as usual, we started with two appetizers: Bigeye Tuna Tartare and Seared Day Boat Scallops. The Tuna Tartare consists of: Avocado, Toasted Cashews, Chili Aioli, and Citrus Ponzu. It was OK but nothing so extravagant.  The avocado was placed below the tartare..so it was a bit difficult to fork it, becuase the tartare just kept falling apart. Seared Day Boat Scallops were perfectly cooked! The sauce was bold but not overpowering the scallops. I used bread and wiped the plate clean! Sauce was delish. For entree, I got the Bouillabaisse, which was in a saffron/lobster broth with: Monkfish, Sea Scallop, Oysters,Blue Shell Mussels,  Gulf Shrimp and potatoes. It was a mess to eat. I was exhausted after taking the oysters and mussels out of the shell and peeling the shrimp. When I got to the soup, again it was bold, however, after 3 spoonfuls it was unbearable to finish. I stuffed it down...bleh. On top of that potatoes were undercooked, I picked them out of the bowl.

Would I go back? No, nothing impressive. Oh, the waiter was very odd. Possibly becuase we were such a young couple...but why don't you treat us the same as any other couple,  we are paying customers! Not worth the time or money...
